Each year we encourage readers across the region to read the same book and come together as a community around one book. It’s called ECRL Reads, complete with book discussions, visits by the author and additional programs related to the book.
The 3rd Annual ECRL Reads features award-winning, bestselling author Leif Enger and his latest book, Virgil Wander, an enchanting and timeless all-American story that follows the inhabitants of a small Midwestern town in their quest to revive its flagging heart.
Readers can discuss the story at any of the book discussions planned for each branch location.
You can also meet the author, as Leif will be visiting branches in Hinckley, Cambridge, Chisago City, Mora, Aitkin, and Princeton. All ages are welcome to these author visits, and no registration is necessary.
Looking for more Virgil Wander-inspired events to attend? Additional programs include a Baseball in Minnesota presentation by Stew Thornley; a kite workshop with artist Linda Hashimoto in Rush City and Wyoming; a kite origami workshop with Kathleen Sheridan in Sandstone, McGregor and Mille Lacs Lake/Isle; and traditional Swedish music from members of the Twin Cities Nyckelharpalag in Pine City and Milaca. (*Please note where registration is required.)
Library programs are free and open to the public. ECRL Reads is funded with money from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
