Past Events – East Central Regional Library

In the summer of 2013, East Central Regional Library ran a Kids Design Art contest as part of the Summer Reading Program. Children ages 4-10 were invited to enter a special contest to have their drawing turned into a glass sculpture by local glassblower, Anthony Michaud-Scorza. Over 150 kids from 14 branch libraries entered the contest. One drawing from each branch was chosen to have their drawing turned into a glass sculpture.

Anthony Michaud-Scorza created the glass sculptures throughout the fall and winter of 2013 into 2014. The winners were also invited to invited to Anthony Michaud-Scorza’s glassblowing studio to observe the process of glassblowing. Once complete, the 14 sculptures traveled to each of the 14 East Central Regional Library branches for a display and a presentation on glassblowing by Mr. Michaud-Scorza for Youth Art Month in March 2014.

“Colorful Hearts” was drawn by Navaeh, age 8, of Sandstone Public Library

“Cat in a Boat” was drawn by Madelyn, age 9, from Hinckley Public Library

“Blue Jay” was drawn by Billy, age 8, of Pine City Library

“Arg Matey” was drawn by Syndey, age 9, of Chisago Lake Area Library

The Kids Design Glass contest, sculptures, and presentation was funded with Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
