The ECRL Reads program includes numerous programs and events based on the life and culture of 1920s Minnesota. An integral part of the 1920s was the introduction of the automobile. Join us for the very first ECRL Reads event at the Sandstone Public Library on Saturday, September 16 at 10:30 am for a special program entitled The Tin Lizzie: Mr. Ford’s Model T.
Historian Dale Blanshan tells us how Henry Ford revolutionized automobile production, putting auto ownership within the reach of ordinary folks and how the nation embraced the “Tin Lizzie” in the early 1900s. The event is funded with money from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
The 2017 ECRL Reads book, Ice-Out by Minnesota author Mary Casanova, is inspired by real events in early 1920s Minnesota and the story of young romance against terrible odds and true grit on the border between license and responsibility, rich and poor, and right and wrong.
While at the Sandstone Public Library be sure and check out their “Signs of the Times” window display with information about the 1920s era in the Sandstone area and Pine County. It is sponsored by the Friends of the Sandstone Public Library.
